Congratulations to the 2011 Leadership Award Winners
Five University of Washington doctoral students were honored at the CSWE conference in October for their outstanding leadership in crafting a new approach to doctoral education. The students Amelia Derr, Kimberly Hudson, Carrie Moylan, Valerie Shapiro, and Eric Waithaka engaged in a several-year initiative to infuse into doctoral education the principles of social justice. Their work resulted in a new framework that -- according to the nomination forwarded by U. of Washington Doctoral Director, Gunnar Almgren, will "place on equal footing" the advancement of social justice with the "more conventional curricular goals of doctoral education in the theoretical, methodological and the substantive knowledge domains."
