Welcome to GADE

The Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work is an organization made up of over 80 social work doctoral program directors worldwide who represent their member Universities. Founded in the late 1970s, GADE primary purpose is to promote rigor in doctoral education in social work, focusing on preparing scholars, researchers, and educators who function as stewards of the discipline.

The Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work (GADE) is excited to present the 2021 Donna Harrington Award for Excellence in Mentoring Doctoral Students to Dr. Cynthia Franklin (Professor, University of Texas at Austin) and the 2021 Student Award for Social Work Research to Erica Eliason (PhD Candidate, Columbia University). In addition to the award presentation, we will hear from a panel of current and past award-winners about mentorship strategies to promote doctoral student development and success.
